To the American Congress.
Your red children of the Wyandott Nation would respectfully inform your noble Council that Negro Slavery has been introduced into our Territory West of the State of Missouri Contrary to the law which you have heretofore made. The Missouri Compromise act expressly forbids and forever excludes involuntary servitude in this Territory North of 36 degrees and thirty minutes latitude Your humble petitioners ask that some measure be taken to carry into effect this law we are not abolitionists nor have we any sympathy with them but we believe that territory already free ought to remain free.
